Take your oxy-acetylene skills to the next level! In this class, you'll learn more complex welding and brazing techniques by focusing on welding/brazing different thicknesses and shapes of metals together including sheet, plate, hollow tube, and solid rod. You’ll practice preparing the different thicknesses and shapes of metal using grinding, cutting, and other techniques. Once you elevate your skill level, you’ll be ready to create your own masterpiece. The first half of class is dedicated to learning and practicing skills and the second half to creating your own sculpture incorporating one or more of the skills you’ve learned. There will be a lecture/demonstration on finishing techniques appropriate for completing your project.
The focus of this class will be on steel. Incorporating other metals may be possible in some circumstances. CAFAC will supply material for the initial skill building lessons and students will supply their own material for their independent work sessions.
Pre-requisite: Oxy-Acetylene Found Object Sculpture or equivalent experience.
