Heated Discussion: Intense conversation characterized by strong emotions (FIRE)
Join this special workshop, led by master enamelists and artists Christopheraaron Deanes and Ta-Coumba Aiken, as part of their exhibit “Heated Discussion,” on view at CAFAC’s Nokomis Gallery through June 21!
Designed as a transformative journey into self-discovery and personal expression, this workshop will introduce the medium of porcelain (or vitreous) enamel as a means of exploring questions like “Who am I?” and “How do I connect with myself and the evolution of who I am becoming?” Enameling is a process of applying pigmented glass frit using a myriad of techniques, lending itself well to exploration and experimentation. Once applied, the enamel medium is dried and then kiln-fired at very high temperature, becoming a layer of melted glass fused to metal.
This transformation is analogous to our personal evolutions, as throughout life we change and grow. Through the art of enamel, you'll witness the medium transition from liquid to solid glass, mirroring the profound transformation of personality and growth. Embrace the changes within, foster personal growth, and connect with your ancestral roots as you uncover who you are becoming. Emerge with an understanding of this ancient medium, along with the tools and techniques to translate your visions into enduring, creative artworks.
