Begin your exploration of flameworking borosilicate glass (aka boro) with a simple, fun project! Borosilicate glass is commonly used for scientific vessels because it can withstand multiple heat/cool cycles with minimal cracking, which also makes it great for sculptural work too. You'll learn safety protocol, tool and equipment use, and beginner flameworking techniques. Through hands-on practice, you’ll get to know the physics of molten glass, while exploring glass manipulation and shaping techniques using various tools. You'll go home with a completed glass feather pendant and the ability to continue on to intermediate flameworking workshops. Wear long pants, closed toe shoes, and if your hair is long, put it up.
$65 ($55 tuition + $10 materials) Open to ages 16 and up.
