This class is a glass bead primer to get you acquainted with working a torch and Italian soft glass. You will learn safety protocol, tool and equipment use, and beginner flameworking techniques. Through hands-on practice, you'll explore glass manipulation, shaping techniques and surface decoration. Expect to go home with 4-6 beads and the flamework basics to explore more techniques with confidence. Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and bring a readiness to experiment! | $40 ($30 tuition + $10 materials)

Instructor: Mary Ila Duntemann creates art glass beads inspired by the colors, textures and patterns that surround her in the natural and human-made landscape. She captures these influences in molten glass, working each unique piece by hand using traditional methods. She is primarily self-taught but has studied with Kristina Logan at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY and Aja Vaz, Holly Cooper & Amy Waldman at the Third Degree Glass Factory in St Louis, MO. She exhibits at regional art shows including the St Anthony Park Art Fair, Grand Marais Arts Festival and the Powderhorn Art Fair.
