This class is an in-depth study of flamework (also known as lampworking) using a dual-fuel torch and Italian soft glass to create glass beads. You'll build a repertoire of techniques through hands-on practice, as you learn a variety of shaping techniques, glass manipulation, cane creation, and surface decoration. Creative combinations are limitless! We will have ample time in each class session to practice and hone new skills. Safety protocol, including proper tool and equipment use, will be covered. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. | $190 ($150 tuition + $40 materials)  |  5 weeks

Instructor: Mary Ila Duntemann creates art glass beads inspired by the colors, textures and patterns that surround her in the natural and human-made landscape. She captures these influences in molten glass, working each unique piece by hand using traditional methods. She is primarily self-taught but has studied with Kristina Logan at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY and Aja Vaz, Holly Cooper & Amy Waldman at the Third Degree Glass Factory in St Louis, MO. She exhibits at regional art shows including the St Anthony Park Art Fair, Grand Marais Arts Festival and the Powderhorn Art Fair.
